As a flexible pipe connector, coolant hoses are widely used in automotive accumulators and auxiliary heat exchangers. In order to ensure that the coolant flows smoothly into the manifold and valve body, the coolant hose adopts a peculiar tree-shaped multi-branch sub-channel structure. The coolant hose must not only meet the requirements of function, structural size and performance, but also be fully compatible with the extremely complex and compact cabin layout.
Not to mention the influence of design, the high temperature radiation and oil immersion of the engine will also gradually age the outside of the coolant hose. But in any case, the most common aging is from the inside out. Therefore, when there are tiny pinholes on the outside, it indicates that serious corrosion has occurred inside the hose. The wear channels are the result of electrochemical corrosion and the natural phenomenon of microbattery effects in the cooling system. Oxygen in the air is one of the main factors that lead to chemical reactions, so improving the filling process of the cooling system can effectively avoid such accidents.
When a large amount of coolant leaks, the fault is clear at a glance. However, the crux of the problem is how to diagnose the corrosion inside the hose without disassembling the hose. The following methods can help you find the dying coolant hose quickly and accurately: Knead the hose by hand, especially the upper part of the radiator, bypass, manifold, valve body and heater, the connection end is the most important. If there is an obvious soft or inelastic handle at the kneading place (compared with other parts), it indicates that the hose in the place is severely corroded. If the mileage of the vehicle is low at this time, it is recommended to check the voltage of its cooling system. When checking, the negative pole of the voltmeter is connected to the ground electrode of the battery; insert the positive pole into the coolant (do not touch any metal parts). If the voltage reading is above 0.3V, a comprehensive and systematic inspection of the vehicle ground electrode is required. At the same time, make sure that the auxiliary ground electrode is not connected to the heat sink bracket.
For flexible pipe channels, even if only one branch leaks, it is wise to replace the entire coolant hose, otherwise it will get twice the result with half the effort.
Although most hoses can be installed flexibly without kinking, almost all hoses are molded because molded hoses are more suitable for tight installation space.
OEM clamps for coolant hoses are usually of spring band construction. The elastic snap ring causes compression deformation inside the hose, thereby achieving a tighter connection and uniform continuous pressure. However, when the end of the hose connection is slotted or deformed, the sealing performance of the OEM elastic buckle is not as good as the high-quality repair clamp. The maintenance fixture mainly includes a contraction belt that can continuously adjust the compression force and a worm drive type with tension. Therein, the turbine secondary clamp can rotate 360 degrees around the circumference. A uniform pressure is generated in the direction of the bolt, and the compression deformation generated by compression ensures the reliability of the fastening connection.
